KAAN Conference Special Programs
Adult Adoptee Programs
Adult adoptees can attend adult adoptee-only sessions in every block as well as general sessions.
  • An optional adult adoptee-only dinner is planned for Friday evening. Contact lindsaynorman@gmail.com for cost and times. Sign up by June 30.
Youth Programs (for registered attendees ages 7-17)
Saturday: Daytrip to Albany sites, including museums and outdoor activities
Sunday: Peer group sessions and activities
Our goal is for youth to have a positive experience as members of the adoption community. Youth attendees are primarily adoptees but siblings and children of adoptees can find this weekend immensely valuable as well. Group-building activities and a fun field trip with Asian-American chaperones help create this sense of belonging. Cultural offerings are woven into the youth and family programming as well as some more adoption-specific discussions on Sunday. Please look at the conference schedule for more program details on this as well as other family programs during the conference.
Youth will eat all meals with family except for Saturday lunch, which will take place during the field trip. All tickets, transportation, chaperones, and lunch expenses for the field trip are covered within the conference registration fee.
We will contact parents of registered youth by June with more program details and paperwork.
Childcare Options
We are launching a new childcare option for 3-6 year olds at this year’s conference. Contact us for more information.
Other Special Programs
One of the strengths of our conference is that it provides plenty of time for respectful interaction with the hope that we all grow from listening to different perspectives. However, sometimes after a full day of conversation people need a quieter place to decompress and process the feelings from the day. Our Saturday evening support groups provide spaces for others of similar experiences to gather. Adult adoptees, parents of adoptees, siblings and partners of adoptees, birthparents, and other groups can learn from and support one another at this time.
